As a SWFL fine art photographer, I am drawn to creating imagery that explores the hidden, often uncomfortable emotional landscapes we carry within us. This past October, I was honored to have my photographic work Hungry Ghosts accepted into Dark Art 2025, an immersive exhibition held at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in Fort Myers.

Dark Art 2025 brings together artists working in the surreal, macabre, and symbolic, inviting viewers to engage with themes that live in the shadows of human experience. To be included in an exhibition that embraces introspection, vulnerability, and transformation just feels right. 

My submitted piece, Hungry Ghosts, depicts an aged crone; naked and exposed. From within the egg emerge grasping hands, representing the parts of ourselves we nurture quietly and hide deeply: unresolved wounds, unmet desires, inherited patterns, and emotional longings that are never fully satisfied.

The crone reflects time, endurance, and lived experience. The egg serves as both womb and burden, symbolizing what we continue to feed, protect, and carry, even when it consumes us. Together, the figure and the emerging hands ask an uncomfortable but necessary question: What happens when we keep nourishing what drains us?

Being included in Dark Art 2025 reinforces why I create: to start conversations, to reflect the shared complexities of the human experience, and to give form to emotions that often live unspoken.
